Core Lesson Objective: A master secures the exposed king and neutralizes enemy counter-checks before expanding toward victory.

The Shielded King & Queenside Harvest

Position 1 / 1
Position 1/1 • Starting Position (White to Move)
With active queens on the board, king safety is paramount. Observe how White centralizes the queen, calmly shelters the king behind central pawns, and transitions into a decisive harvest of Black's queenside pawns before extinguishing Black's kingside pawn storm.

Mainline (15 Moves)

Move 1 / 15 36. Qe1

White plays Qe1!, controlling the open e-file and preparing a safe haven for the king.

Move 2 / 15 36... Qf3

Move 3 / 15 37. Kd2

Kd2! tucks the king behind the central pawn chain, completely diffusing Black's queen checks.

Move 4 / 15 37... g5

Move 5 / 15 38. Qe2

White redirects queen pressure toward Black's vulnerable queenside pawn majority with Qe2!.

Move 6 / 15 38... Qe4

Move 7 / 15 39. Qxb5

Qxb5! White captures the isolated b5-pawn, creating a dominant outside passed pawn while maintaining full control over the board.

Move 8 / 15 39... f4

Move 9 / 15 40. Bf2

Bf2! When Black lashes out with ...f4, White does not panic or launch hasty counter-attacks. White calmly tucks the bishop back to f2, guarding the light squares and creating an airtight barrier around the monarch.

Move 10 / 15 40... Qb1

Move 11 / 15 41. Qb8+

Qb8+! An energetic intermediate check that flushes Black's king out of its back-rank bunker and seizes the 8th rank.

Move 12 / 15 41... Kf7

Move 13 / 15 42. Qxa7+

Qxa7+! White eliminates Black's remaining queenside pawn with check, leaving Black with zero counterplay while creating two connected passed pawns.

Move 14 / 15 42... Kg6

Move 15 / 15 43. d5

Decisive Breakthrough: d5! White pushes the central passed pawn forward! Black's kingside pawns are completely paralyzed by White's bishop and king, while White holds two unstoppable passed pawns on a2 and d5, leaving zero lingering questions.

Alternative Path Available — Consider: Played in the Game: c4?!

Alt Step 1 / 4 36. c4

The Human Blindspot: Premature Pawn Pushes without Calculating Diagonal Lines (~11% probability for players rated 1000–1199). Pushing 1. c4?? looks like an aggressive attempt to kick Black's queen, but it fatally opens the long diagonal! Black unleashes 1... Qe4+!, delivering a lethal absolute diagonal skewer along the e4–d3–c2–b1 line. The King on d3 is forced to step out of check, directly exposing the undefended Queen on b1. After 2. Kd2 Qxb1, White loses the queen on the spot! The Master Thinking Habit: Before advancing pawns in front of an exposed king, scan every diagonal for unmasked skewers!
